This dog is in a fosterhome in: Pagosa Springs, Colorado Sampson is a 5-year-old Rat Terrier who could be from the Decker line. Deckers are a unique variety of Rat Terrier a bigger dog, bred for hunting and companionship. Sampson stands 18 tall at the shoulder and weighs 27 lbs. He is a fun-loving spirit who would like to be on the receiving end of marathon petting sessions anytime he can. This boy loves people and his little tail is always wagging! But dont let his people-loving ways fool you. Like most Deckers, he has a very high prey drive and would make an excellent small game or mountain lion hunting prospect. Sampson has to be on a lead and under firm voice control when being introduced to unfamiliar dogs as he can initially be very protective and aggressive towards strange dogs. Roaming loose in a dog park would not be a safe environment for him. After being introduced under controlled circumstances, however, he lets down his guard and shows his friendly side. Sampson plays gently and lovingly with his two smaller foster siblings. Hes a wonderfully athletic dog, beautiful to watch as he lopes around outside. He would thrive in a home with a nice big fenced yard. But he is also an excellent indoor dog: well-mannered and thoroughly enjoying lounging on the sofa and the bed. Sampson is not a barker, and only talks when protecting his home. He adores the two boys who come see him, but has not been around very young children, so it is unknown how he would do with little ones. He is so sweet and gentle, however, it's hard to imagine that he wouldn't just love on them as much as he does everyone else! Sampson knows the sit command, walks well with a harness, is crate trained, maintains great eye contact, and has a strong desire to please his person. He is currently working on mastering stay and come. He LOVES to go for rides in the car and is very well behaved when traveling.
